Eyebrow dormer class in Portland, Oregon
I've been chatting with William Dillon (Olllee) about his eyebrow dormer class, and he's game for coming out here to teach a class if I can get it organized.
The thoughts right now are mid-January. 3 day class, learn how to design, loft & build an eyebrow- and I don't think you'll need a sine-wave generator to do it! Probably a Thursday, Friday, Saturday schedule. Should be ready for a couple days in a dry shop by then ;-)
If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll get you the rough info on cost, etc. (Yeah, we'll need to round up airfare, some sort of shelter- he seemed to think my offer of the shop floor was a joke, so I suppose he's going to want a conditioned space with amenities :-(...)http://www.lavrans.com

I wont be there but if you up the anti and offer him a cot, instead of the floor, would that be the enticement needed?

Re: Eyebrow dormer class in Portland, Oregon
Hey, I was thinking of putting a couple packing blankets on the table saw (it is a 10' slider, so it'll be long enough, provided he doesn't roll around much), but that cot idea... that might be a winner!!
I don't know, though- if I concede to little comfort items he might start asking for running water. Egads, possibly even a clean toilet! Nope, I'd better keep that to a minimum.
Now, I can offer beer, though! Lots of beer. Good beer. And good bread (the kind you bake, not the kind you spend).
We'll see.http://www.lavrans.com

Re: Eyebrow dormer class in Portland, Oregon
You know, I might show up. I had a guy call last year about adding an eyebrow dormer to an existing roof. I didn't have the time to do anything at all for him, but if I had it would have meant serious improvisation. Mid-January I'll either be neck deep in new work or totally unemployed, not sure yet.

So the curves in the dormer are directly proportional to the amount of beer consumed.
Now that the secret is out, no class is needed and you can send me half the money you just saved.

Yep, I'm interested! Let me know what I can do to make it happen. Mirror pond, bridgeport, hopworks?

Yes. I think that all sounds good :-)
Seriously though, a good tour of the town would be in order though.http://www.lavrans.com

Lavrans,
I'll do it. It looks like I'm not going to be able to get back their next month. Something came up.
So the Portland class would be perfect. email me with the details.

Re: Eyebrow dormer class in Portland, Oregon
Lavrans,
It would be great to meet Billy Dillon, let alone take his eyebrow class. I have six projects that I just bid on, all starting around the first of the year, so it'll be a couple of weeks before I know if I can make the class.

Re: Eyebrow dormer class in Portland, Oregon
Joshua- hope you got my PM.
David- That would be really cool if you could. Be a right nice little shindig.
Tim- Hopefully you got my message, too. I've taken your advice & been emailing GK.
Sim- It would be a real honor to meet both of you.
I'm thinking I'll be the token amateur at this thing. I'm putting together a curricula/schedule with tentative dates that should go out to everyone sometime next week.
Any critiques or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,http://www.lavrans.com

Re: Eyebrow dormer class in Portland, Oregon
Lavrans,
I've emailed Gary a couple of times and not gotten a reply. I heard he has been super busy, so hopefully he replies to you.
If not, I will see him in November at the JLC LIVE. I'll email Mike Sloggatt too and see if he can put the bug in Gary's ear.
I'm all for this class. I'd love to learn from Billy and meet all y'alls at the same time
