Nothing like a North Carolina snow storm. 3 flakes fall from the sky and everyone runs to the grocery store for milk and bread, all businesses and schools are closed, the governor declares a state of emergency and the local religious leaders warn of the second coming. No one closes schools faster than Charlotte-Meck.

We got about an inch or 2 last night, too.
I was stopping by the grocery store on the way home last night to get some ale and noticed the bread aisle.
I had to take a picture.

From what I've seen, the most popular things that fly off the shelves come snow storm time, are bread, milk and toilet paper. Along with salt/de-icer also. I'm also noticing some stores raising the prices of salt/de-icers just before a storm hits. The local HD used to have salt @ $8.00 per 50lbs, now its $21.95 for 20lbs. Good old supply and demand + greed once again rule.

Eight years ago I would have agreed with you but in 2000 they called for 1 to 2 inches of snow and we got 2 feet! While I always stop at the store for beer and smokes prior to snow, now I really think about the bread and milk thing.

sounds a lot like atlanta. all they need is just a forecast of possible snow and all the bread, milk, and blockbuster videos are all sold out. but the funny thing is no martter what the temp is the snow will always stop falling by noon and all melted by AM the next day.

The sheeple do the same thing around here in NJ with regard to stocking up.
It's a joke. Even when we do have 2+ feet of snow, our high taxes are paying the DPW guys so much money, they have all the snow gone (black roads) by noon.
I laugh when people talk about "the big snow storm". Maybe in rural areas it sucks more, but the honest residents of NJ don't stand for snow on the roads.
High taxes, unchecked corruption and the best snow removal in the US....NJ

Re: snow today, charlotte in kois! 1 7/16" (im a carpenter)
That's just too funny. We normally go through a few loafs of bread and a few gallons of milk a week, between PB&J sandwiches for the kids, and ceral at breakfast. I'll often call on the way home to see if we need any, and stop at the convenience store to get it. For some reason on Tuesday night, I didn't think to call, even with the impending "snowstorm" that was due Wednesday night, and sure enough, when I got home, we were just about out of both. I told my wife that she'd have to get milk and bread Wednesday morning, and fight with every other person in GA for it. Sure enough, the bread aisle looked just like the one in your picture, and she had to buy two quarts of whole milk because they were completely out of gallons and 1/2 gallons of any type- and this is at a major Publix. People crack me up.......
