Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
I also have one that is about 4 years old and it works great. stabilia also makes a great new one that shows the last 19 measurements, something the bosch does not have.

I just got the Bosch and that's a good tool too for far less.

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
the bosch is not bad, but for the extra 100 bucks the stabilia has way more features. it stores the last 19 measurements, bosch does not store any of them if I recall.
this way you can go around a room it stores all the cuts in one place. plus there were a few other things bosch did not do. pay the extra if you can afford it and get the stabiliaKreg

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
If I am taking a sequence of 19 reads, I am still gonna have to make myself a little layout key sketch, and likely use paper and pencil.
For a whole lot less than that hundred bucks I'll save buying the Bosch versus the yellow brand, I can buy myself one of those aluminum box clipboards the state troopers use when writing my speeding tickets.
In the box will go my plans and elevation sketches, my little Bosch laser measuring device, plus my new supply of paper and pencils!
Some of you guys! The things you will do to justify the price of German yellow!
The next thing you'll be telling us is something like, "hey, for an extra $500 to $600, you can get a Kapex SCMS versus that Bosch or Hitachi or DeWalt."

NO not here! Never would that happen! BTW the "yellow" tool is made by Leica.. which I've used for years...

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
I had the stabilia, I bought at the jlc show last april but I lost it in sept. I have also used the bosch. I think the stabilia is much better and I am going to get another one at the show again this coming year. it had more features than the bosch. dont get me wrong the bosch is fine and you can just write down the measurements, and for the money it is fine, but for the extra money stabilia has more features. so dollar for dollar the stabilia is less expensive than the bosch and is a better value.
but eather way you will do fine in life!!
oh by the way the kpex saw does look good........Kreg

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
I've had the Hilti for a while and love it. I got a great deal on it. Doubt I would have paid full price... though I probably wouldn't ahve believed any measuring device would be worth that much considering the tapes I buy are 7 bucks a pop (Fastcap lefty/righty's).
I think any of the new generation measuring devices in the more 'accurate category' are a good investment for finish carpenters these days.

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
I've been looking to buy one for a while and have been sorta studying the options.
One thing I have noticed is that the Trimble HD-50 and the Bosch unit seem to be identical except for the color and button graphic details. Button location, form factor, etc. seem to be the same between the two units.
I'm leaning hard toward the little Stabila.

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
when I originally bought the hilti about 5 or 6 years ago it was 375.00, but it saved lots of time and impressed customers. so it is great that the price has gone down.

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
Texas, you said, "BTW the "yellow" tool is made by Leica"
Are you saying that Leica makes the laser measurement tool for Stabila?
Whaddya think? Does Johnson make Stabila's levels for them?

Re: Hilti Laser measureing tool
I have had a Leica 5a classic for a few years and just recently picked up a Hilti PD32. Man is that Hilti a nice laser! So much smaller and more durable and has a much better designed bottom and edge and corner setup.
Also - has a great automatic mininum/maximum/difference setting that makes a lot of sense - in the Leica you have to go to either mode and do the calculations yourself.
The Leica is faster in how fast it reads the measurement by a touch, the Hiltl is better at dark target readings.
The PD32 has a built in scope and the triangulation function like my Leica did too.
After having this Hilti for a few weeks, I don't think I'd buy a different brand - it's just so well thought out.
One flaw - it only shows in ',",1/x" - very awkward, I'd much rather be able to choose it to read in only inches at times instead of me having to figure out the combination of the two.
Didn't hurt I got it for $120 off Craigslist - what a deal.
Julian
