Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
Mastic in the shower?
I thought he was using contact adhesive.....
Hey JLC John
Since you're new here, fill in your profile and tell the forum what it is exactly you do besides hire sub contractors who do crappy work.
Who did you contact for this guys references? I'd call them back and let them know how their man took care of you.Chuck

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
Yea..mastic in a shower....good one Brad!!
Obviously this guy doesn't know how to install tiles very well. But maybe not all of the problems are his fault?
It is pretty bad though. Why did you hire this hack? Oh....I see, he had the cheapest price? Not anymore!

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
Is he using construction adhesive??? looks like your tile man is either in a really big rush or he has no idea what to do. The walls that are bowed or out of level you can't pin on him, that's the carpenter's resonsiblity to make it flat and level. Hate to see such a mess.... Next time make sure they do better prep work, and investigate who you hire before hand...
good luck

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
If thats what the wall tile looks like I can't imagine what the shower pan is like or if there even is one. What did he charge for that masterpiece?
Jaz- what problems would not be his fault? It looks like poor layout and installation. The walls look out of plumb because the tile lines are not plumb

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
i think the responsible thing for this person to do would be to take a lot of photos and mail them to the other guys who bid on this job and lost so they can show them to future customers so hopefully this wont happen again to some1 else

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
I don't see what the problem is... it looks like a typical DIYer job to me. Use grout to match the color of the tile and I bet you could hardly tell it was put up by a blind man on his first day as a tilesetter.
It is a simple matter of being patient. I do patience very well, except for the waiting part. That's the one aspect of patience that still bites me.

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
You could get monkeys from the zoo to throw crap on a wall and it would look better than that guys tile job. Holy crap that was bad. The tile guy should be strung up by his... never mind. But wait a minute, are you saying that the tile job in the video was yours or that you just want us to comment on it and it has no relationship to the tile guy that you hired? Either way JLCJohn, on a project of that size why didnt you check any of his references or see some of his past jobs? Shame on the tile guy for that mess but come on John, you should know better.

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
This is proof of what where dealing with. We as professional contractors have to educate the HO's. Push for mandatory licensing in our field turn in the illegals (non licensed contractors, imigrants working illegal, non insured, etc). Show this video! Act professional, dress professional, talk professional, be professional!!!!!!!!

Re: Subcontractor Nightmare
well i was hoping they would have replied before they got flamed by everyone, but now i am sure that we will never hear anything back from the OP or they will say this person was recomended or they checked their references or they were not the lowest and not the highest but the middle of 3 bidders.
my gut feeling is this is a HO, but if this is a gc of some sorts shame on you for leting the job get that far before something was done about it.Brad
