Default Prescriptive requirements and inspection of residential decks.

Some deck builders may be interested in reviewing this publication at the Building Safety Journal:

    http://www.iccsafe.org/news/bsj/0407_prescriptive.pdf

The link will be good for about 7 weeks. Comments are welcome.

Thanks for that. I only had time to skim through so printed it out for future reference.

I read that article as soon as it arrived, and being involved now with munincipal inspections(yeah, I'm on that side too!) I found the simple explanations of what are typically minimal requirements for code today to be easy enough for anyone to build a safe deck!

Actually, building safely doesn't have any excuse for not doing so!!

I am consistantly amazed at the crap that gets built here in Myrtle Beach, SC. I am on a addition now where, on the existing house, there is no drip edge, no starter course of shingles, & the siding is not nailed into the studs. You should see the deck construction. It's real nice.
Two roads diverged in a narrow wood. I took the path less traveled.
