Not to hijack, but I'm gonna call you on this one:
"The Passaic River was the site of the first submarine ride by inventor John P. Holland."

I think the first submarine mission was in Charleston Harbor during the Civil War in February 1864. Sucessful testing of the craft was done in Mobile, Al months before.

I can't help it, I'm a Civil War History buff.

I like not having gas smell on my hands, when our daughter went to Quinnipiac College in Conn., we had the "privelige" of pumping our own once or twice for about 30 cents more a gallon than at home. I think Oregon is the only other state with this law.
If it wasn't for NJ all the people who work in NYC wouldn't have a place to live !
I also think Lindbergh's engine for the Spirit of St Louis was built here. Also Martha Stewart's from Nutley. I'm at exit 154 ;)

A while back we did some work on a Pizza Hut in NY. On the way up we stopped and stayed the night in Jersey. The next day, we got to the job and after a little chit chat with one of the workers in the store he asked where we stayed last night. We told him Jersey. He said, "JERSEY?! YOUR LUCKY TO BE ALIVE!" That was my first taste of New Yorkers disdain for Jersey.

If that "disdain" is so true, then why are they all moving here?

If memory serves me, in some parts of NJ you'll drive into a highly engineered thing called a rotary -- aka round-about or traffic circle -- commonly spelled traffic jam. A very ineffective bit of road planning. Do you still have them? Oh wait...Mass. has them, too. Sorry.
