Timbersil Redux
I went to a presentation on Timbersil last summer and started a thread on it - it sounded like a great product. Not so great apparently - just got word from one of my salesman that Huttig, their national distributor, bought back the entire stock. Production problems, I heard.
Here's an article I found on it, and I just saw that Timbersil's website is down.
We were just about to try it on a job - guess we dodged that bullet. That's the danger in new products, I guess."anxiety tempered by hopelessness."

That article link is bad, but even when I fix it, I can't read the article because I'm not a subscriber.

Re: Timbersil Redux
That's weird - neither am I. But suffice it to say that one of the contracted manufacturers is suing the owners of Timbersil, "alleging problems with the treatment process and breach of contract in TTT’s failure to pay for treated wood," Huttig has canceled its distribution deal, and Timbersil says the manufacturer failed to meet the specs.
Doesn't look like they'll be back anytime soon, which is too bad - looked like a promising product."anxiety tempered by hopelessness."

Re: Timbersil Redux
Well, cautious good news. I was curious what was going on, so did a search. They have a new website. I exchanged some e-mail with their Director of Business Development (he's got his work cut out for him) who says Huttig is out of the picture, that the original problem was that a contract plant shipped product not up to spec without OKing it with Timbersil, that they're trying to work out a new distribution deal.
I still have a sample kicking around. I should bury it for a while and see how it does. Anyway, it seems like a cool product and I hope it gets back on the market. And that it lives up to at least some of its hype."anxiety tempered by hopelessness."

Re: Timbersil Redux
Dancing Dan, I apologize for the bad experience you had and those of us at Timber Treatment Technologies, LLC were working to catch any product below quality as soon as possible. The first product that left the factory did not meet our quality standards and after some time working with the plant, we concluded they weren't willing to meet them, so they no longer produce TimberSIL. That cost us a distributor relationship, but we have a plant in Greenville, SC that is making the wood, employing ISO 9001 standards and producing treated wood that is great, and meets our advertised attributes. IF you go to our new web site www.timbersilwood.com you wil also see the distributors that carry our product, hopefully one is near you. Our plan is to expand our treating facilities up and down the East Coast then across the South and eventually cover the US. We are shipping product within 300 miles of our plant without extra shipping cost. The treated wood meets the expectations and is non corrosive, and able to paint or stain immediately.

Re: Timbersil Redux
Troy - thanks for weighing in. I wish you luck - I think it's a product with fantastic potential. Are you treating framing lumber yet or focusing on the decking? And any distributors in New England yet?

Troy,
another question are there any potential hazards with the dust and the silica?

Re: Timbersil Redux
TimberSIL wood is now on the ground and available in California.
TimberSIL California opened mid March 2009 with a distribution center in Orange County. In the first three months we has seen a phenomenal response from homeowners, contractors & architects. The California public is very excited to be able to build wood structures outside worry free from the threat of wildfires. Not to mention the termite problem we have here in Southern California.
So far so good.
We currently offer delivery at the rate of $1.00 per loaded mile from Placentia, CA 92870. However, we are actively seeking Lumber Yards & resellers who will stock & sell TimberSIL wood throughout the State.
Hayward Lumber in Santa Barbra has recently signed on to sell the TimberSIL product line in their store. Hayward Lumber 805-963-1881, Manager: Paulo Sitolini
