    Re: Roofing Detail

Just run the roll roofing 12" up the 12:12 slope and carry the underlayment for the slate down over that.

You can also add a sheet metal flashing over the break to protect the crease in the roll...
  3. Re: What's wrong here... No kick-out plus?

#5 reminds me of a great tongue-in-cheek assessment from a roofer I work with:
"Nothing wrong there that can't be fixed with a trowel and a bucket of All-Better"
  4. Re: What's wrong here... No kick-out plus?

Yeah, got that. My favorite is the vent through the stud, though.

    Re: Root Cellar Challenge

Thermax rigid insulation over the bottom of the joists, thickness as required for R-value.

Or 2" min Thermax over the bottom of the joists with the joist bays filled with batts.

    Tape all the...

Re: Seal crack in concrete deck

Yes. The deck will show fear when presented with water and will be unable to swallow.

(Or definition #2 for the less imaginative among us.)

    Re: Mystery Garage Attic Space

If it is insulated, a room for a furnace, insulated so condensate does not freeze, and fire separated from the house. Neither furnace not access from house attic ever installed

    Re: Annual inspections?

Irrigation systems can be designed with air gaps or with back flow preventers to guard against backflow. The air gaps do not need inspection, but they have to be installed above the highest elevation...

    Re: continuous hand rail

You need an S shaped piece to join section A to section B. Code requires continuous but not necessarily all along a common line

Re: Seal crack in concrete deck

Its not going to fill the crack. Just makes everything the water contacts less prone to absorbing the water (and the borate makes it less prone to developing fungus)

Re: Seal crack in concrete deck

With that surface, you'll never get the crack wide enough to seal.

I'd buy me a gallon or Bora-care solution and pour it slowly over the cracks so it seeps in. Same viscosity as water, will follow...

    Re: Log home caulking

Chink the biggest gaps (the bat and rat-worthy ones) with coarse stainless or brass wool. Then shoot a line of expanding foam to hold chinking in place and air seal the gap. Leave room for backer rod...
  14. Re: Concrete stair/Crawlspace moisture issue

Put a door between the space and the rest of the basement. Cut through the concrete wall and install a louver. Put down poly and a 2" rat slab. Use it only for storage of things that are not...

    Re: Cheap probe camera

You'd be surprised what you can do with a 3" diameter hole, a mirror on a stick, and a small flashlight.

    Re: Center Match Cedar Problem

Looks like oxidized cedar with non-oxidized stripes from the sticking. My first instinct is an oxalic acid based brightener - tested on material not yet on the wall.

    Re: Painting composite decking?

How much does that product move with heat? Most expand a lot. You'd need a 100% acrylic paint to move with the decking, and that paint would be too soft to stand up to foot traffic.

Re: Quick books from multiple locations

And AFAIK, two people cannot operate on a QB file at the SAME TIME. You can share the company file, but you have to play nice. Take turns. Put it back where you found it.
  25. Re: Flashing for veener stone around door

It works either way as long as there is a proper shiplap above where the flashing is outboard of the WRB.
