  • Basement Column Finishing

I am wrapping my columns in my basement. I bought 1x6x8 Poplar and was going to miter 45's on them and box it. These are about $12 a board. Should I be using MDO or MDF instead of the Solid Poplar? One of the poles is in a high traffic area that may get hit from time to time.

I would not use MDF trim in any area that is subject to potential abuse. Make sure that your poplar is straight, flat, and not cupped.

Windsor One might be a good option.

Another thing if you use solid wood you can pocket screw them insted of the 45's it will hold up longer and is faster to do as well.
