  • No tape between wall and ceiling under crown molding?

In drywalling a family rom that will get crown molding, is it necessary (or typical) to tape the wall to ceiling joint or, since it will be concealed with crown molding, can that joint be left un-tapped? This room is next to a garage so are there any fire-barrier issues related to leaving this joint un-tapped?

    Typically it gets taped.

If you have two tapered joints going into one corner and not into another, it'll throw it off, so, tape it and finish it

Thanks. Has anyone even heard of doing this or seen this?

I just finished a room in my own house that got a tin ceiling w/ a crown. I admit it, I caulked the ceiling to wall joint.

            Hi Guys,

It is a fire code issue. Tape and mud all seams and joints. Period. Caulk is not a suitable fire stop unless you use fire stop caulk.
